  • 10/01/2003
    • PinMAME, PinMAME32 and Visual PinMAME 1.30 officially released!!!
    • This update pretty much includes *all major* pinball manufacturers in a more or less playable state!
    • With Alvin G. and Capcom games now working, we've reached a major milestone!!
    • Of course a lot of games are still unaccounted for, especially some of those little-known Italian or Spanish manufacturers, or Universal of Japan, or LTD from Brazil, or ... you get the point, right? ;)
    • Unfortunately, Gottlieb's System80A game series are now broken; the games are booting up OK, but will stall upon game start. We're working on a solution right now, yet we decided to go ahead with the release and leave this as a "known issue" for now.
    • Sorry for the inconvenience, but we're sure you will love this latest release!
  • 04/01/2003
    • Visual PinMAME 1.12.3 released!!!
    • As you probably already know, we decided to discontinue working on this old core; it would just be too time consuming to maintain the source codes for 2 entirely different versions.
    • Besides, with the 1.21 being as stable as it is now, and using Tom's new SyncLevel™ feature, I don't think anybody should be using this older version any longer; the only possible usage we could think of was the integration into a cabinet, so we also decided to remove the time limit on this version!
    • As a consequence of the latter, we removed all of the new Stern games until further notice - or until a few more years have passed...
  • 03/31/2003
    • PinMAME, PinMAME32 and Visual PinMAME 1.21 Officially released!!!
    • Go to the downloads page for the program as well as information on what is new in each release!
    • Stay tuned for version 1.12.3 to be released very soon..
  • 03/29/2003
    • Happy 2 Year Anniversary to PinMAME!!
    • Look for a new release very very soon...
  • 10/1/2002
    • PinMAME32 1.20 Beta released!
    • For all the MAME32 fans out there: we're finally able to make PinMAME32 run again... to compile it yourself using the sources, use "make WINUI=1 SUFFIX=32". It's nothing fancy, and the PinMAME settings dialog will need more work, but at least it compiles again!
  • 9/29/2002
    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.12.2 Officially released!
    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.20 Beta released!
    • Two releases at once? Yes, it's strange, but it's true...
We got the 1.20 version running, but not entirely as we wished we could have! So we decided to just give you two versions this time:
    • The 1.12.2, which is essentially the same as 1.12.1 with very few fixes,
    • and the 1.20 Beta, which we would like to call the "official" release, but just can't. Read all about it inside the 1.20 whatsnew.txt!
    • 1.20 will certainly see a re-release as a fully working version soon, but as VPinMAME 1.12.1 is expiring tomorrow, we simply couldn't delay the release any longer...
    • Note that VPinMAME 1.12.2 contains NO new games, not even any seriously needed bug fixes! It's just the 1.12.1 code with an expiry date set to April 1st, 2003.
    • The new stuff is all inside the 1.20 Beta! And what a bunch of stuff there is! Zaccaria, Taito of Brazil, the complete Atari collection, and many more. About 50 new games are supported, so we broke the magical 500 sets by now!
    • Please remember: The more people are using 1.20 Beta from now on, the more feedback we receive in order to get a perfect, fully working 1.20 version out soon!
    • We need feedback for each and every OS, every CPU speed, every GFX/sound card we can get. So Please use 1.20 Beta as much as you possibly can! As you can imagine, we can't hire a paid staff of beta testers... so we do most of the testing ourselves; which is the worst thing to do, as you rarely find any bugs you produced yourself!
  • 8/24/2002
    • Sorry for the lack of updates, it's been an extremely busy summer for everyone, but the good news is...
    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.20 has been released privately for alpha testing!
    • An alpha test is necessary because we've changed a lot of the core code (moved to MAME 0.59 core). So far the test is going well....
    • Some new machines and manufacturers have been added, for example one of the 1st video/pinball combos produced, Gottlieb's Caveman.
    • VPinMAME has got a lot of new features, including a resizable display and access to the led segments for games using the older alphanumeric style segments.
    • Stay tuned for more info as the alpha test continues...
  • 4/14/2002
    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.12.1 Officially released!
    • Not much new, as the number gives away already, only some much needed bug fixes this time.
    • Read the whatsnew.txt for details.
  • 3/29/2002
    • Happy 1 Year Anniversary to PinMAME!!
    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.12 Officially released!

    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.11 Officially released!
    • Baby Pacman fans will be very happy!
    • See the whatsnew file for all the goodies..
    • *IMPORTANT NOTE: This release has not been beta tested and may contain many bugs! We wanted to get a release out now, because for the next month or so, we won't have time, and we thought we should at least get the bugs from last version fixed and out the door.
    • Updated the screenshots page, so go check it out.
  • 1/01/2002
    • Happy New Year!!
    • May everyone have a safe, happy, and Pinball Filled New Year!
    • As of today, here's what's in the next release... [no release date set yet]

    • That's a pretty nice sized list considering the last release wasn't even 9 days ago!
  • 12/23/2001
    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.10 Officially released!
    • This is the one you've been waiting for!
    • What better way to help celebrate Steve's 30th birthday today!
    • As always, a big thank you to the beta testing team for their help!
    • Installation Guide has been updated!
    • One final surpise (even to beta testers) in the new release...,
preliminary (but not yet working) support for Bally Video/Pinball(aka Baby Pacman!)
    • Happy holidays everyone! May you all enjoy a healthy, happy, pinball filled new year!
  • 12/17/2001
    • PinMAME Version 1.10 (Beta Release 2) has been released to the beta testers.
    • Things are looking good so far..
    • ...but just to make it better, here's what else just got added:
Gottlieb/Premier System 3 Sound Emulation! (Speech not working yet)
Gottlieb System 80B Sound Emulation (Speech not emulated for earlier s80b games).
    • Who says this isn't the season for giving? :)
  • 12/13/2001
    • PinMAME Version 1.10 has been released to the beta testers.
    • Let's hope there's no major issues, so the official release can happen soon!
    • Here's a nice surprise that just made it into the new release:
Gottlieb/Premier System 3 Emulation is now working!
      (no sound support yet)!
    • Updated the screenshots page
  • 12/01/2001
    • 4 Letters: BSMT
    • Yes, it's true, BSMT is NO LONGER a 4 LETTER WORD!
    • The BSMT2000 Music Chip has been emulated in PinMAME!
    • 11/24/2001: Possibility of emulating the BSMT2000 chip = 0!
    • Enter, miracle worker, Aaron Giles of MAME fame (and reverse engineer god)...
    • ...less than 36 hours later, with additional efforts from myself(sellenoff) & wpcmame...
    • ...what was once thought impossible became a reality!
    • With emulation of this chip, 35 new pinball tables now have working sound!
    • Therefore..PinMAME now has full sound support for every Data East, Sega, and late model (post 1998) Stern pinball machine.
    • The only bad news is that a majority of the older games use special encoding on some of the samples, and we can't figure out how to play it back properly. Bottom line is that most of the music and sound effects work perfectly, but some will either be missing, or sound horrible.
    • The PinMAME team owes a *huge* debt of gratitude to Aaron for making our dreams a reality! Thank you!!
    • I'd like to thank the following additional people who helped me "try" to uncover information on the BSMT2K:
Destruk, Worf, DesAngel, RevenantUK, and a # of other people who posted links to the forum!
    • There's still much clean up to do, but look for the beta team to be testing the next release by mid next week.
  • 11/28/2001
    • THE IMPOSSIBLE... HAS BECOME A REALITY!!!
    • Stay tuned for details...
  • 11/27/2001
    • ARE YOU READY TO BELIEVE?!
    • The #1 most requested feature... is coming soon!
    • Bet that news is worth the 1 month lack of news on this site! :)
  • 9/28/2001
    • PinMAME and Visual PinMAME 1.0 Beta 2 Officially released!
    • A huge thank you to the beta (or is it alpha) testing team for their help:
Gerrit, Destruk, Apocolypse, AJ, Worf, and Dorsola
    • Be sure to read the whatsnew.txt & whatsnewVPM.txt for the *huge* list of updates.
    • I will be very busy with real life stuff for the next few weeks, but feel free to continue to email me with any issues about the new release.

  • 9/11/2001
    • Thank you all for your emails of concern about me.

For those that didn't know, my wife and I live a mere 25 minutes from the scene of today's unbelievable tragedies.. Thankfully everyone in my family is ok, including my dad who was at work a mere 10 blocks away, and who witnessed everything from his office window. What still concerns is me is the several friends that I have who work in the now destroyed world trade center building. I still don't have any word on how they are doing. I am obvioulsy deeply concerned, but pray for the best.
    • My deepest sympathy to all those who've lost loved ones in this terrible tragedy.
    • Pinmame developement will be on hold for the next few days, for obvious reasons.
    • I am hopeful that next week I can start up a beta test for the next release, as we've got some great stuff almost ready.

Again, thanks to all for expressing your concern. It has made me feel better, in such a sad, sad time.
      Regards to all-

      Steve
